How to price beauty services in the UK — without guessing
June 25, 2026 · 7 min read
Most beauty pricing is set by copying the salon down the road and subtracting a pound. That road leads to being fully booked and still broke. Here is a better method in three steps.
1. Find your cost floor
Add up monthly fixed costs (rent, insurance, software, marketing) plus per-treatment consumables, divide by your realistic monthly treatment count. That number is the floor — price below it and every client costs you money.
2. Map the market band
Check 8–10 comparable businesses in your area (not the whole city). Note the low, median and high for your core service. The band tells you what clients in your postcode consider normal.
3. Choose a position, then act like it
Price at the median only if your work, photos and reviews are median. If your portfolio is stronger, price in the top third — and let the booking page prove it with photos and verified reviews.
Raising prices without losing regulars
- Announce 4–6 weeks ahead, with a date
- Frame it once, briefly — no apologies
- Let existing clients book one visit at the old price
- Raise by enough to matter (8–15%), not by 50p every quarter
Track the result in your reports: revenue per visit and rebooking rate tell you within a month whether the market accepted the move.
